Hi i m currently renting an old barn conversion where i m finding my sofa and clothes are feeling damp.
Why does my carpet feels damp.
Why does my living room carpet feel damp ish when it rains.
There is no dampness on any of the walls or floor and i cannot find any cracks that might be letting in air.
What is wrong with this carpet i don 39 t know what else to do.
If you don t have a wet vacuum dab the damp area with towels until it s feeling a little drier.
Within a week or so the damp spot progressed to a puddle 4 by 6 feet that a wet vac couldn t really keep up with.
Check the attic for signs of leaks including discolored plywood on the ceiling and moldy insulation on the floor.
I cannot find the source of the problem.
Any floor that remains damp or wet for more than a day may grow mold.
Failing to protect the wet carpet from furniture.
This scenario occurs mostly in basements.
If you have had a water leak or similar accident wherein the carpet was left wet for an extended period of time you will.
Investigate any drywall damage or musty smells by removing drywall if necessary and looking for water damage in the framing.
Maybe i m going crazy but after a big rain my living room just feels damp.
If you have a wet vacuum go over the damp spot to take out as much of the moisture as possible.
This is the biggest reason why even hard core do it yourselfers should occasionally use a professional.
Both are practically inevitable with some wet do it yourself approaches.
I bought a general tools pin type moisture meter model mm1e and it is reading around 14 throughout the two rooms.

But i honestly cant tell it s it s just cold from being on the slab or legitimately wet underneath.
It s been raining here in southern indiana for days and the inside of my house carpet bedding etc feels damp.
Remove as much water from the damp carpet as possible using a wet vacuum.

The temporary fix was to rip up the carpet knock a hole in the concrete slab repair the leaking pipe fill in the hole with quickcrete cement and restretch the carpet once it and the pad had dried.
